Hi, Skycrier !
First of all, congratulations on reaching the top 8 in Angers! Before we get into the technical stuff, tell us a bit about yourself: how did you discover Altered? Is this your first TCG, and what convinced you to take the plunge?
I heard about the kickstarter after it ended. I played a lot of TCGs and CCGs before, but it seems I am already more serious about Altered than I was for any of them. I liked the 2 lane mechanic a lot and decided to download ExAltered. I soon signed up for the ExAlts league and the rest is history.
You’ve come a long way to take part in the tournament. Did you have high expectations of the event? Were you satisfied with your weekend?
In an event with 1024 players I think it’s unrealistic to expect a top16 finish. So even though I was very prepared I didn’t expect much. I am very happy with my result.
You played a hero who’s perhaps not been seen as the most successful lately: Afanas. Why did you choose to play him?
Because I knew I can show everyone how strong Afanas is or at least how strong I am with this hero
Let’s get to the heart of the matter: what was your decklist and game plan for this tournament? What do you think is the special feature of your deck?
I tried to be very aggressive with my cheap spells and anchored characters or mage dancers. I can also play Beauty Sleep or Off You Go to take an early 2:0. The special features of my deck are my uniques that bounce spells back to my hand and play 3x sleep.
Were there any surprises during the tournament? Were any match-ups more complicated or simpler than expected? Cards that were more useful than expected or, on the contrary, completely useless?
I was surprised how strong my deck was against Sigi, Teija and Treyst. My decklist is very refined so there are no useless cards.
What advice would you give to a player wishing to progress with Afanas and improve their deck?
Think about all the possible plays you can make. Sometimes losing an expedition but saving cards is worth it and sometimes it is the opposite
Thank you very much for taking the time to answer all these questions! Any last words you’d like to add?
Be open minded. You can make any hero work!
